This project forms part of Red7Marine’s ongoing works for Kier BAM Joint Venture (KBJV) at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, the UK’s largest infrastructure project. It provides marine engineering and heavy-lift solutions for modular installations, seawall defences, and logistics operations.
Project Overview and Challenge
Operating in the Bristol Channel, one of the world’s most challenging tidal environments, the Red7Marine team faces:
● 12-metre tidal ranges and strong currents,
● Wind-sensitive lifting operations up to 150 tonnes,
● And the constant need for accurate, real-time environmental data to plan lifts safely.
The Windcrane Solution
To address this, Red7Marine installed a Windcrane remote wind monitoring system on its Haven Sea Challenger barge in September 2025.
Windcrane provides:
● Real-time wind speed and direction anytime, from any device.
● Automated logging of wind data for downtime and compliance reporting.
● Secure online dashboard access for engineers and project managers ashore.
● Weekly data summaries correlating wind trends with crane activity.
"The crew relies on Windcrane’s live readings every day. It’s simple, reliable, and saves us time on manual logs."
Henry Steele, Marine Engineer
